The Story Of A Child That Touched My Heart
A student in one of my 3 year old classes wouldn't participate in the learning activities in the classroom. I used a chart with stickers to chart my student's academic progress. This student did not have any stickers by his name. His parents would ask why? I expressed that all children learn at different levels and paces, even though I was a little concerned. Near the end of class year, this student joined in and started raising his hand to be called on and recited his colors, numbers, shapes and alphabet. The student also made me aware of his knowledge of all the other class activities. This was amazing. All year the student had been taking in everything and chose his time to share.

I said before and will say it again, the young children are like sponges that take in a lot and let it out in their time. He was not ready to display what he had been learning. I have a little Mexican boy in my class, he lies around the floor during circle time playing with his shoestring, just not into what I am saying. One day I decided to pull him to the side and test him, he had been listening and soaking up all the information just not paying attention. He was able to answer all the questions without hesitation.
